The Time Team dig at Codnor Castle in June 2007 was a monumental success and we gained more information about the castle’s past than we ever dreamed of. One of the most memorable finds was the discovery of the castle draw bridge, until the dig nobody had any idea the castle had such a feature. Another very important discovery was the finding of foundations and remains of not one castle but three castles on the site. We now know that over a period of time the castle was dismantled and rebuilt as its defences were made stronger and modified to suit the threat at the time. Another great find uncovered was the Henry V Gold Noble coin. The gold coin dates from 1413 to 1422, around the time of the battle of Agincourt. We will soon have a full report on the Time Team dig on the Website, and the program is due to be shown on Channel 4 early in the New Year. Please take a look on the images page for photos from the dig.
